Carrie Furnace

Carrie Blast Furnaces, Pittsburgh, PA.

The Carrie Blast Furnaces were part of the Homestead Steel Works, operated by the Carnegie Steel Company. They played a crucial role in Pittsburgh’s steel industry from the late 19th century through the 20th century. The furnaces were in operation from 1884 until 1982.  After their closure, efforts were made to preserve Furnaces No. 6 and No. 7, which are now designated as a National Historic Landmark.
